People should pay attention to the colour-coded 'alerts' from the UK's Association of British Insurers (ABI), the investor body. It has just issued an 'amber-top' alert (next stage is red top) to shareholders at Cable and Wireless Worldwide. The 'amber-top' alert suggests serious concerns about breaches in good governance.

The Investment Management Association (IMA) has produced a report that shows that the UK is the market where shareholders are most likely to engage with the companies they invest in through voting - ahead of other markets such as the US, Canada and Japan.
